Matt Kemp is Curing Autism

You may know him as the center fielder for the Dodgers, or you may know him as Rihanna's boyfriend, but I know Matt Kemp as a man who is curing autism. Matt Kemp's 15-year-old brother is autistic, and he wants something done about it. During 2010 Dodgers Spring Training in Glendale, Arizona, Matt Kemp is running a celebrity poker tournament called "Ante Up for Autism," that is open to the public. We should applaud public figures like this who go out of their way to bring publicity to a cause like this. Bravo and encore, Matt Kemp. May you not only have a great season on the field this year, but may you also find a cure for autism via your wonderful charity.

Oliver,

I don't believe anything celebrities say about "curing autism." Kemp lacks COMPLETE credibility to speak about autism disorders.

One must be a MEDICAL professional, NOT celebrity to even talk about treatments and cures for autistic disabilities.

For example, the National Autism Association (NAA), has some information about treatments. NAA involves MEDICAL professionals like doctors.

John Elder Robison, an autistic adult has been part of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation research. Such treatments have the potential to increase abilities in autistic people.

Other treatments, prospective treatments and cures (not sure how, NOT saying it's not possible may also be credible.) Feel free to ask me any questions if you don't understand something.

Regards.

Katie

P.S. I would like to cure my Generalized Anxiety Disorder. No, NOT treat it. CURE it. Get RID of it COMPLETELY.

Oliver,

Phil Gluyas is correct; having a family member with autistic disability does not make someone qualified to promote a treatment or cure.

For example, sometimes I get together with a girl I met at the vocational program I attended. She is severely autistic. I KNOW her. She has no functional communication (speech or AAC). She has echolalia (not speech). She repeats some things back if you tell her, and she will occassionally say, "Hi." She sometimes says random phrases. I am not able to have a conversation with her because we cannot communicate with spoken language and she doesn't use her AAC device (a TechTalk). I cannnot type her a letter because she cannot read. I think when a cure becomes availalable she should be cured. Maybe I'll ask her. Her mom said she understands when people talk to her. She has other autistic challenges because her autism is not "pretty" or "cute."

I am NOT qualified to promote any treatment or cure because I'm NOT a MEDICAL professional.

I can offer organizations and support groups and people whom I believe will help the girl (adult).

Regards,

Katie K.

If you want a boost to your self esteem, Oliver, the first thing you should be doing is sending Foresam away. He'll do nothing for your self esteem.

It's not. It's never right to want something that's not possible. If your self esteem is up because of him, it will soon drop like a stone because he is an insane jerk.

Oliver,

"Is the low functioning girl you know named Lexi?"

No, she is not.

I don't know what you mean by "low functioning." How do you that Lexi is "low functioning?" By the way, Lexi CAN read.

Lexi said: My favorite subject at school is reading, math, science and lunch.

Katie's response: One of my special interests is READING - INCLUDING fiction. I LOVE to read.

"I have to disagree on the medical aspect, as doctors only have pharmaceutical interests in mind, and parents are warriors who fight for their children."

Some doctors are good, but some doctors are bad. Some parents are good (regardless if disability is involved), but some parents are bad (regardless if disability is involved).

Of course, parents know their children. Parents cannot and should NOT offer, sell, or advertise treatments and cures unless they are a MEDICAL professional too.

Regards,

Katie K.

Oliver, just because someone doesn't have a blog doesn't mean they are someone else.
